Cambodia Travel Guide
- Khmer New Year: Held in April each year, Khmer New Year is a three-day affair that traditionally marks the end of the harvest season and is Cambodia’s single most important holiday. The cities shut down for a week over Khmer New Year while Cambodians return to their villages to spend time with their families, have parties, and visit their local pagodas.
- Water Festival: The Cambodian Water Festival (Bon Om Touk) takes place once a year, on the full moon of the Buddhist month of Kadeuk (usually in November) in Phnom Penh. The festival history dates back to 12th century of Ankor period and is a mark of respect to the Naval Forces. Two million Cambodians from all walks of life gather in the capital city to watch the colourful boats race on the river.
- Pchum Ben: Commonly reffered to as Ancestors Day, this festival is considered a major religious celebration across the country. The 15-day ceremony of Pchum Ben is a time for Cambodians to honour their previous seven generations of ancestor. Families gather at nearby pagodas, offering food and prayers to save their ancestors from bad karma. The festival dates back to the middle ages but holds strong today, with students and workers returning back to their families to observe Pchum Ben and make offerings.
