4 Must-Go European Destinations this Winter

Sure, European summers are nothing short of incredible! But winter in Europe doesn’t mean it just has to be all hibernation and gloom. Believe it or not, some destinations in Europe are actually even better to visit in the winter. Not to mention the bonus of less tourists, easier to book accommodation, more affordable and just all round more magical! Here are four European destinations worth putting on your radar this winter.

If there’s one country in the world that knows how to do winter, its Russia! Don’t let the cold deter you though! When the rest of Europe abates and looks forward to summer, Russia is quite the opposite. The cities come to life in full force during the winter. Russia tends to have it’s own unique ‘winter culture’ that you likely won’t find anywhere else in the world.

As the snow begins to fall, prepare to see it become the place of fairy tales. With the beautiful ornate architecture covered in snow, thriving festive Christmas markets, Christmas decorations around every street corner and warm hearty Russian food such as pierogis and borscht, Russia is a winter destination unlike anything you’ve likely experienced before!

Bansko, Bulgaria

You may have not heard of Bansko before, but it’s time to put it on your radar! European ski holidays can really make the winter season shine and that little bit less gloomy. But it’s no secret that they can be pricey! What if we told you that you can have that European ski holiday experience, AND without breaking the bank? Well, allow us to introduce you to the slopes of Bansko, Bulgaria!

From shredding the slopes throughout the day, to warming up at the spas, before hitting the incredible après-ski nightlife, Bansko makes for the perfect affordable winter escape. Hit the slopes with us on one of our Bansko tours and get to know your group over daily included dinners with unlimited (yes, UNLIMITED) beer & wine! There’s a new kid on the block and Bansko, Bulgaria is where it’s at!

Cappadocia, Turkey

Cappadocia is one of those special places that is simply breath taking any time of year! It’s also one of the very few places in Europe that actually has everything open all year round too, including the iconic hot air balloons.

It’s worth considering visiting Cappadocia in the winter. There’s something a little bit more magical about taking in the views of the fairy chimneys covered in snow. Staying in the popular cave hotels are also ideal for the winter. It’s the perfect place to warm up and get cosy in your little cave nook after a day out in the snow exploring the scenery. Plus Cappadocia is also more affordable and less touristy in the winter. Allowing you to really enjoy the raw beauty of the landscapes minus the crowds.

The Northern lights are absolute bucket list material! And there’s no better time and chance to spot them in Iceland than in the winter. Between the months of October to April is when you’ll want to visit. With longer and darker nights, it gives you a better chance of spotting this mesmerising light show of green and rose twirls in the sky. Not to mention, it’s much more fitting to warm up in the natural hot springs of the Blue Lagoon after a long day of exploring Iceland’s wintery landscapes.
