10 Fun Facts About Croatia

1. You’ll have no shortage of islands to explore – 1246 islands to be exact!

3. Croatia is home to the worlds’s smallest town called “Hum” with a population that changes between 17 and 23.

4. The amphitheatre, located in Pula is one of only 3 preserved in the world and the 6th largest amphitheatre in existence.

5. Game of Thrones fan? You’re in luck! You may recognise King’s Landing, where majority of this was filmed in Croatia’s coastal fortress city Dubrovnik.

6. It has the largest amount of UNSECO intangible goods of any European nation. These include wooden toy carvings, lace making and gingerbread baking.

7. Nature lovers are also in luck as around 10% of Croatia is made up of nature parks – 8 national parks and 2 nature reserves.

8. The Croatian currency, the Kuna, is named after a rodent. Yes, you read that right! The Kuna, which is also the word for the marten, a furry cute ferret-like animal.

9. Speaking of animals, the dog breed dalmatians (all 101 of them!) originated in Croatia and are named after the Adriatic coastal region of Dalmatia, Croatia since Imperial Roman times. The dog’s roots run deep too with illustrations of the dog breed dating back to the 17th century.
