Sergiyev Posad

Some six centuries ago, the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius Monastery was built by a highly-revered saint to mark the site where one of the most important sacred towns of Russia, Sergiev Posad, would flourish. Today, the town is the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church and has been a pilgrimage site for the devotees for centuries. Its religious value alone testifies to the unprecedented status of Sergiev Posad in the country. But, it has much more to offer in terms of the unfeigned Russian spirit.
The Trinity Monastery is only one of the many strikingly picturesque cathedrals, churches, and bell towers that embellish the town. Yet, it is certainly the most rewarding, with a mystical presence and a display of the relics from St. Sergey. While you are in town, try some of the tantalizingly delicious baked goods in cozy bakeries and comfortable cafes, and have a peek at the versatile museums lined up on the streets. The Toy Museum, for one, is a favorite among travelers. It showcases fascinating toys from old to new and a wonderful collection of “matryoshka” dolls, which are said to have originated in Sergiev Posad.
Only a day trip away from the glorious capital Moscow, Sergiev Posad is a memorable destination in the Golden Ring. In Russia’s most celebrated religious site, you will find a delightful experience poised for both spiritual fulfillment and laid-back sightseeing.
