Five Unmissable Experiences in Africa

If you’ve been craving an adventure that lets you to disconnect from the outside world, dust off that camera you’ve had stored away and spend nights under the star-swept skies… An African adventure is calling for you!

Forget the Instagram filters and daily story updates, Africa is for the travellers who want to immerse themselves in unfiltered beauty at its best.

But with so much to see across such a vast continent, it’s difficult to know where to start researching.

To make the decision a little bit easier, we’ve pulled together five of the most urforgettable spots you won’t want to miss on a Travel Talk Tour through Africa

#5 Zanzibar Island

When you picture Africa, it’s not likely you’re imaging exotic, palm-fringed beaches and white sand, but that’s exactly what the idyllic island of Zanzibar is like! The northern beaches of the island provide the ultimate heaven for snorkelling and diving.

After a few hours in the water, we highly recommend indulging in some of the local seafood on offer or resting up beneath the palm trees with a cocktail.

Zanzibar isn’t just about sitting back and relaxing though, the island is filled with history and Arabian architecture. It’s best explored on foot, meandering through the diverse bazaars of the Stone Town.

We offer a number of tours which visit Zanzibar Island, including the 13 Day Kenya and Tanzania Adventure and 21 Day East African Explorer Tour.

#4 Safari Africa’s Big 5

If you’re hitting up Africa, you won’t want to miss out on a wildlife safari at the game parks.

Two of our favourite parks to visit are the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Kruger National Park in South Africa. They are two of the continent’s biggest and best Game Parks, and here’s why…

They’ve got the BIG 5 – Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants and Buffalos! These five African beasts should be at the top of every travellers Safari Wish List, but they won’t be all that you see. These safari parks are filled with all forms of wildlife from Zebras to Monkeys and Giraffes.

After a successful day 4×4 driving in our game vehicles around the parks, we end our safari days back at the campsites comparing epic safari stories over dinner.

Take a look at our 7 Day Tour visiting Kruger National Park or 13 Day Tour to the Serengeti.

#3: Victoria Falls

Defining the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world!

The monstrosity of these falls can be seen from up to 20 to 30 kilometres away, giving them the local name Mosi oa Tunya – the ‘Smoke that Thunders’.

After snapping up incredible pictures of the landscapes, our travellers spend the evening camping along the waterfront banks at Zambezi River, just a few kilometres from Victoria falls.

We highly recommend you spend an extra few nights camping here to soak up all there is on offer at the river, including rafting, canoeing, gorge swinging, abseiling and more!

If a Safari, Victoria Falls and Zanzibar Island are all ticking boxes for you, check out our epic 24 Day South-East Adventure Tour  and 22 Day Zanzibar, Victoria Falls and Kruger Tour.

#2: Hiking mighty Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

As far as bragging rights go, It doesn’t get much better than telling your mates back home you hiked to the ‘Roof of Africa’ – Mt Kilimanjaro.

Towering at 5,895 metres, Mt Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain and is situated on Tanzania’s northern border with Kenya.

While a trek to the summit is not a technical climb, we’ll admit it’s one serious challenge! But… Picture yourself standing at Uhuru Peak, witnessing the sunrise over the snow-capped mountain with only a small group of like-minded travellers.  Epic.

We strongly suggest trekkers be of reasonable fitness before booking a tour to Mt Kilimanjaro. With early starts, high altitudes and plenty of walking – it won’t be easy, but totally worth it.

#1: Trekking through Uganda in search of Gorillas

A once-in-a-lifetime experience that should be on every wildlife-lover’s bucket list!

It’s hard to explain exactly what it’s like to witness Gorillas in the wild, but we’ll try…

Imagine staring eye to eye with a female mountain gorilla as she nurtures and grooms her babies. Imagine looking up towards the tree canopies above you and seeing the flash of a cheeky infant swing past your very eyes. At the Bwinidi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, these incredible dream-like moments become a reality for our travellers. There is no experience quite like witnessing a rare sighting of a Silver Back Gorilla and its troops in their natural surroundings.

This is that incredible moment from Africa that you would remember for a lifetime.

Check out the 14 Day Gorilla Encounter Tour and 9 day Troop to the Gorillas Tour.
