Thailand Travel Advice

Make sure you are up-to-date with the pre-departure essentials before your trip to Thailand.

Passport & Visas

Most nationals require a visa to enter Thailand for tourist visits. If you are a citizen of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, you don’t require a visa to stay in Thailand for less than 30 days.

Travelers to Thailand must have a passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months from their arrival date in Myanmar. You should carry your passport or travel document with you at all times.

Check with your embassy or your official government website for regulations. Bear in mind that our Thailand travel advice is for guidance only. You are advised to check the details as it is your responsibility to have all the official documents ready before traveling.

You can consult the latest travel advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. We recommend all travelers to check their Government National Travel Advisory prior to their departure: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA.

Travel Insurance

You need to have valid and adequate travel insurance before your tour with Travel Talk begins. It is your responsibility to have your insurance ready, but we are more than happy to provide you with guidance in the process. You can visit our travel insurance page for more details. For now, here is some Thailand travel advice that you need to keep in mind when choosing the right plan.

  • To prevent any unwanted surprises, make sure your plan covers emergency medical situations, cancellations, and threats against your personal belongings.
  • Based on your tour, there may be adventure activities that your travel insurance does not include. So, look carefully at what your policy covers.
  • Make sure you have the latest information regarding safety and health issues. You can find useful Thailand travel advice on governmental websites.
When to Go
  • High Season

The best time to visit Thailand is from November to April when the monsoon rains give way to clear skies and comfortably dry weather. Temperatures vary between 30 and 35. But in March and April, the western part of the country may see hot temperatures up to 37 degrees. January and February are perfect months if you wish to combine dry weather with mild temperatures. This is also the high time for the country’s cultural events and traditional celebrations. Locals make sure to hail the perfect water level in the canals of Bangkok.

  • Low Season

Come in the rainy season and you will get to experience the wild side of Thailand at its most vigorous. From May to October, the Thai countryside springs to life with the forces of the monsoon season. The lush forests brim with the sounds of wildlife. There is also no better time to experience the floating markets of the iconic Thai cities. This is the best time to visit Thailand for a truly authentic cultural journey. After all, it is the rains that have fashioned Thai culture into its mesmerizing shape.

If you are looking for something in between, the shoulder season is always an ideal time for trips to Thailand. May and June offer balmy weather with occasional rainfall in the afternoon. These brief showers are rejuvenating and offer unforgettable views, especially in less urban areas like Kanchanaburi and Sukhothai.

Useful Tips for Thailand Tours

money

Money Matters

The currency in Thailand is the Thai Baht (THB). We recommend you go to the city center to change your money.

ATMs are available in central locations, but access is difficult in rural areas. Credit cards are widely accepted but not for small payments in some local shops.

We recommend carrying cash with you at all times.

The Food Scene

Thai cuisine is surprisingly light considering the amount of complexity and spiciness that goes into every dish.

The best dishes to eat in Thailand are traditional soups like Guay Teow and Tom Yum, or famous spicy salads ranging from Som Tam (papaya salad) and Yam Talay (seafood salad). Also, try the noodle dishes essential to Thai cuisine.

The Thai street food scene is intoxicating. Have some Sai Ooah, sausage sticks that are flavorsome and easy to carry.

Drinking tap water is not safe in Thailand. We recommend bottled water at all times.
