Gion District

Gion is Kyoto's most famous historic entertainment and geisha district, located in the Higashiyama Ward near Yasaka Shrine. Dating back to the Middle Ages, the neighborhood is renowned for its preserved traditional architecture, wooden merchant houses (machiya), and exclusive teahouses (ochaya).
