La Tomatina, based in the town of Buñol in Spain is the world’s largest food fight. Rumour has it that it all began in 1945 when some local teenagers, taking part in the traditional processions, decided to create their own fun within the parade. One of them took some tomatoes from a market stall and hurled them at the others, who reacted instantaneously, giving rise to an impulsive vegetable fight. A La Tomatina tour takes you to one of the more bizarre festivals of Spain where you can literally paint the town red - snatching, crushing and hurling tomatoes, until everyone is covered in the red pulp and flesh of the tomato.
Located on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula, this magnificent city will blow your mind with its phenomenal combination of Roman, Gothic and Renaissance style architecture, sandy beaches and crazy nightlife.
Bunol is Spain’s fiesta town, hosting the crazy tomato throwing festival, La Tomatina! On the last Wednesday of every August, get ready to be painted in red at the Plaza del Pueblo.
