If you are a citizen of the UK, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Ireland, or Germany, you do not require a visa in Morocco for stays up to 90 days. South Africans should apply for a visa well in advance. Check with the Moroccan Embassy website for the latest information regarding visas and Morocco travel advice.

We recommend that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival in Morocco, and you should carry your passport or travel document with you at all times.

If you are going on a combined trip, make sure you meet the visa requirements for the other countries on your tour.

When to Go
  • High Season

The best time to visit Morocco is in autumn and spring when the weather is mild and perfect for cultural and adventure tours alike. These transition seasons make all corners of the diverse geography of Morocco enjoyable for travelers, including the Sahara to the mighty Atlas. Temperatures vary between comfortable levels of 20 and 30°C  from March till June. Do pack for occasional rains in the coastal towns like Agadir, and beware of the sandstorms of mid-April when you are heading to the desert.

April and May is the high season for the Sahara, but don’t worry about the crowds. There is enough space for all travelers on Morocco’s endless sand dunes.

  • Low Season

You will see the best of the Atlantic coast in the dry summer months, and the quietest of the iconic Moroccan cities in Winter. Although not the most preferred, these seasons still offer the best time to visit Morocco if you come prepared. Pack the right gear for the continental heat, and you will enjoy the best places to visit in Morocco during the long summer days.

Money Matters

The currency in Morocco is the dirham (MAD). We recommend that you wait until you go to the city center to change your money.

ATMs are available in central locations, but access is difficult in rural areas. Cash payment in the local currency is essential for the souks.

The Food Scene

The most iconic Moroccan dishes come with a soft blend of local spices. Try some tagine and kebabs in the sensuous food stalls.

Do not prefer drinking tap water unless it is clearly stated to be safe to drink.

Don’t forget to try Morocco’s national drink, the mint tea.
