If you are travelling to Spain from a country that is exempt from the Schengen visa requirement, you can generally visit Spain for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism and other permitted short stays without applying for a visa. Travellers whose nationality requires a visa must apply for a Schengen short-stay visa before travelling. Applications should generally be submitted at least 15 days before your intended journey and no earlier than six months before travel.
Travellers to Spain must have a passport or travel document that is valid for at least three months after their intended departure from the Schengen Area and was issued within the previous 10 years. It should also contain at least two blank pages. If you are visiting several Schengen countries, make sure you understand where your visa application should be submitted, as this depends on your main destination and, in some cases, your first country of entry.

High Season
The best time to visit Spain is generally from late spring through summer, when long sunny days and warm temperatures make it ideal for exploring cities, enjoying the coast, and taking part in outdoor activities. Summer is the peak travel season, particularly along the Mediterranean coast and on the Balearic Islands, where travellers come for beach holidays, swimming, and lively seaside resorts. Coastal areas often see temperatures around 25–30°C, while inland and southern regions can become considerably hotter.
From April to June, Spain’s countryside and cities take on a distinctly spring-like character, with comfortable temperatures and plenty of opportunities for sightseeing. Visit Seville, Granada, or Barcelona during this period to enjoy major attractions and historic neighbourhoods without the intense summer heat. Temperatures generally range from around 15–25°C, depending on the region, making spring one of the most comfortable times for exploring Spain on foot.
Low Season
Autumn is another excellent time to visit Spain, as the intense summer heat gradually eases and many popular destinations become less crowded. September and October are particularly pleasant for sightseeing, with warm days in much of the country and comfortable conditions for exploring cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Granada. Coastal areas can remain warm enough for beach days and swimming well into September, while cooler evenings make autumn ideal for enjoying Spain’s outdoor dining and lively plazas.
The currency in Spain is the Euro (EUR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions, particularly in larger cities and popular destinations.
ATMs are widely available in Spanish cities and towns, although they can be less common in small villages and remote areas.
While some tourist-oriented businesses may accept foreign currencies such as USD or GBP, payments are generally made in euros.
Spanish cuisine is known for its regional variety, fresh ingredients, and relaxed approach to dining.
Tap water is generally safe to drink throughout Spain, although some travellers may prefer bottled water, particularly depending on personal taste or the local water supply.
Paella, tapas, jamón ibérico, tortilla española, churros, and regional wines are must-tries during your trip.
