Shirakawa is a historic village located in the Shokawa River valley in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside neighboring Gokayama, it is famous for its collection of traditional gassho-zukuri thatched-roof farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old.
