Ait Ben Haddou
When it was built as a caravanserai for the trans-Sahara, there was no telling that Ait Ben Haddou would become the center of Moroccan travel. But, thanks to the interest of major Hollywood productions, the site remains preserved and popular. With complete defensive walls, a mosque, and a kasbah, Ait Ben Haddou is an impeccable example of a ksar (a fortified village). As you walk among the flaming red walls, the distant hustle of caravans will accompany you.
Perched on an earth-color hill, the ksar is one of the most recognized views in Morocco. Dive into the streets, and you will see that its true gems hide behind its attractive cover. Chat with the warmhearted locals, feel the silky fabrics, and climb to the top of the hill. There, the rugged desert landscape awaits on all four sides. You will leave Ait Ben Haddou, with the aftertaste of raw admiration.
